Educational guidance

Process of helping students to achieve the self-understanding and self-direction necessary to make informed choices and move toward personal goals. Guidance, a uniquely American educational innovation, focuses on the complete development of individual students through a series of services designed to maximize school learning, stimulate career development, and respond to the personal and social concerns that inhibit individual growth. Although guidance activities are usually associated with educational professionals known as counselors, educational guidance is actually a cooperative enterprise involving the participation of teachers, administrators, other educational specialists, and parents.

Recreational guidance

Recreation managers and officers coordinate recreation programmes for people to improve their quality of life.

Socio-Civic guidance

To give information on correct attitudes in order to live a worthy adult life, right duties and responsibilities of citizens.
To help children adjust themselves to the social environment so they may be worthy and interested participating members of society.
To develop early manners and etiquette observed indifferent occasions so that the child is ready to face all situations without embarrassment

Fundamentals of Guidance and Counselling

Community service guidance

To give information about the different occupations, the nature and qualifications needed for each method of training and chances in the field.
To improve the learner’s knowledge of his father’s occupation.
Example: If farming is the main occupation of the people in the community, the child must learn new ideas about farming like the wise selection of seeds, the use of fertilizer and insecticides, and crop rotation.

Social and moral guidance

The present-day increase of delinquency calls for moral and religious regeneration to be manifested in learner’s willingness
To learn to fear God.
To develop good manners and right conduct.

Health guidance

To learn to use health facilities and equipment in school.
To develop proper health habits:
Personal cleanliness
Good grooming
Proper use of toilet
To develop good eating habits like:
Washing hands before and after eating

Leadership guidance

Group Guidance

In group guidance, learners with similar problems are grouped together and their problems are discussed in view of assisting them to find solutions to their problems and to make the necessary adjustments.

Individual Guidance

In individual guidance, the learner is interviewed in order to understand the problem and to find a solution to the problem so he may achieve his goals.
